Cavotec Middle East plays key role in Muscat International Airport expansion

Cavotec continues to strengthen its position in the Middle East with a second contract for Muscat International Airport as part of its ongoing expansion.

Following a contract to supply 400Hz and preconditioned air pop-up pits last year, Cavotec Middle East is to now supply fuel hydrant pit systems. These units - DAB24s - offer several safety features, such as the capacity to hold larger volumes of liquid in case of spillage, an easy-opening cover and a new seal to protect against both water and sand damage.

Oman's main airport is set for major a expansion programme. The first phase of which, expected to be completed by 2014, will see the completion of a new terminal building that will accommodate up to 12 million passengers a year. A new runway will handle larger aircraft, such as the Airbus A380.

Cavotec has also seen encouraging developments in the Middle East market, with two orders for a total of 13 fuelling stands, bringing the total number supplied to airports in the region during the past 12 months to more than 100. These systems are primarily for use at airports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Oman.

“This new order reaffirms Cavotec’s reputation as a leading supplier of advanced equipment and end-to-end solutions in both regional and global aviation industries, which now also encompasses aviation fuelling systems through the firm’s manufacturing facilities in the UK, Germany and the US,” notes Jüergen Strommer, Managing Director of Cavotec Middle East.
